Don't Trust The Map To Torre Salsa Beach
My Directions Will Get You Here In One Piece
Just back from a run along the beach here in Torre Salsa and a swim. When I first moved to Sicily in 2020, travelling around the island was challenging, as we were still in various stages of isolation because of the pandemic. Mussomeli has many elderly residents, and during the pandemic, I was deeply moved by how the community came together to protect them, always following the rules out of respect and care.
This was also a time for me to research online the areas surrounding Mussomeli, particularly land and houses by the sea. It was always a dream of mine to buy a place where I could grow olives and have a sea view. At the time, I was captivated by Torre Salsa, a six-kilometre nature reserve that runs along the coastline just north of Agrigento. Once the restrictions lifted, I spent the next six months exploring this area on a mission to find a house.
I will never forget the first time I drove here to spend the day on the beach as I had to ditch the car and walk for over an hour along a trail that was only fit for a 4WD car. The walk was worth it but the journey back was hot, even for this Aussie lad! I soon discovered that there are two entrances to Torre Salsa beach, one for 4 wheel drives and hikers and another dirt road that is accessible for all types of cars. The challenge is that if you enter Torre Salsa beach into maps it will take you to the trail for the hikers and 4 wheel drivers. My house is not far from this trail and on many occasions I will stop to explain where the other trail is. A few brave souls attempt the 4WD track, only to turn back minutes later when they realise just how tough the terrain really is. There is a trail that leads from my house directly to the beach, it is unkempt and wild and sometimes challenging to navigate as nature takes over. This adds to the adventure though and I especially love walking along this trail in winter and I never see another soul.
This morning I took some photos and wrote a quick guide for anyone planning a visit to Torre Salsa. Feel free to save and share this post, it could save someone a lot of time and effort and help them make the most of their trip to this beautiful part of the world.
Directions
If you are approaching Torre Salsa from Agrigento, go past the town of Montallegro. Turn off the highway and head towards Bovo Marina. Before you get to Bovo Marina turn left towards the Adler Resort. Before reaching the Adler Resort turn left where the sign says Torre Salsa Nature Reserve. Drive for around 15 minutes until you come to the car park. Same instructions if you are driving from Trapani, take the turn off to Bovo Marina before you come to Montallegro. You have to pay to park your car there and last time I parked it was 6 euros for the day. I am pretty sure as well that they don’t take cards so take some cash with you. My favourite spot is to the right of the entrance to the beach, past the headlands. Take an esky and umbrella with you. In August there is a small van parked at the entrance where you can buy water and ice cream. Enjoy your time in Torre Salsa and I am here if you have any questions.

Also sharing some images for you of the 4WD track below.

Thanks Danny. It looks stunning!
