Monthly Call With Our Sicilian Tribe
This month our Sicilian Tribe learnt all about how to apply for the digital nomad visa here in Italy thanks to Lorrah, one of our brilliant members of our community. I thought that the process was relatively straight forward, however, during our call I realised that there are quite a few hoops to jump through when applying for the visa. After calling Sicily home for nearly 5 years, I have learnt that life moves at a very different pace here and it seems that this is the case for the digital nomad visa as well. If you are reading this post and you have have successfully applied for the visa, please do let us know if you have any advice? Each month our paid subscribers connect with me on a call and also have access to the chat facility. Some of the crew have also now started to help each other, and this growing spirit of community gives me a great sense of satisfaction. Together we are building a tribe of like minded souls who are also seeking their Slow Life In Sicily. Thank you to everyone for subscribing and being with me on this journey.
Sicilian Hidden Gem
This month, I’m taking you all on a journey to one of my favourite places to run here in Sicily, a stunning trail that runs parallel to Bovo Marina. I’m instantly transported back to Australia every time I run there, as the path is surrounded by eucalyptus trees. I’ve always wondered why there are so many eucalyptus trees, and after some research, I learned that they were brought to Sicily from Australia to help dry out swampy land and fight malaria, thanks to their fast growing roots. They were also planted for timber, wind protection, and even to support beekeeping, as their flowers produce a unique and popular honey. As I run and my mind wanders, I often think that if I look up, I might just spot a koala!
I can highly recommend Bovo Marina beach as well, there is a free car park that is never full, and once you enter the beach, you can take a stroll to your right and have the whole beach to yourself. There’s also the option of renting sun lounges for the day and a choice of five different restaurants for lunch. My favourite is Ristorante Locanda Perbellini al Mare. The restaurant is right on the beach at Bovo Marina, serving creative Sicilian dishes by Michelin starred chef Giancarlo Perbellini. A beautiful spot for a relaxed, memorable meal by the sea.
Property For Sale In Sicily
This month we venture to a small town that neighbours Mussomeli called Acquaviva Platani. Close to 1000 people live in this picturesque town and if you are driving to Mussomeli from the train station then you will drive through the centre of the town. This house is a great option for anyone who is seeking a quiet pace of life in a very remote region of Sicily. If you're interested in this month’s property get in touch with Lorrah directly on her website. Also follow her brilliant Instagram page The Amateurs Abroad for information on many other properties in and around Mussomeli.
Life Lesson
This month reminded me more than ever that there are good people in the world doing truly outstanding things and sometimes, all it takes is being open to meeting them. I had the privilege of walking part of the famous Camino trail in Spain with a group of friends, one of whom introduced me to an extraordinary association called Cadi. The incredible volunteers from Cadi create opportunities for people who are unable to walk to still experience the magic of the Camino. Their strength and selflessness were inspiring, setting aside their own challenges to lift others, quite literally, along the way. I’ll never forget the pure joy on the faces of the group as they were carried forward, all of them floating on a sea of happiness.
To all of the volunteers, well done. It was a deeply moving experience, one that I will never forget….
Thank you for being part of this journey. Feel free to leave a comment or ask me any questions below.
Sending much love from Sicily,

Jealousy reading this from a slightly chilly Sydney, but looking forward to spending September in Sicily again.
